Dr. Huggett is a medical doctor specialized in pulmonary and bronchial medicine, allergology and occupational medicine. In 1989 she entered the field of hospital hygiene, in which she has been active for 30 years.

From 2003 on she was the leading hospital hygienist at the Hamburg LBK clinics, which were later taken over by the Asklepios clinics. From 2016-2020 she held this management position for all Asklepios clinics in Germany. She was medical director of MEDILYS Laborgesellschaft for 12 years and a founding member of the Hygiene Commission of the German Hospital Society (DKG, Berlin). She was also responsible for the organization and scientific direction of the German Congress for Practical Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Infection prevention was at the heart of Dr. Huggett’s work in hospital hygiene. With the increase of resistant pathogens, she established the first MRSA Epidemiological Network in Germany already in 2004. She was particularly interested in infection prevention through special antimicrobial surfaces such as copper. In addition, she focused on reducing the development of antibiotic resistance through the implementation of antibiotic stewardship programs in the Asklepios clinics nationwide.
